How to Cut Leather Earrings with Your Cricut Machine

Are you ready to take your earring making to the next level?

If you love working with leather or just starting out and you want to know how to cut with your own Cricut machine, this is how you do it!

With just a few tools and a dash of creativity, you'll be making beautiful leather earrings in no time. Let's dive in!

Equipment Check:

Before we get started, let's make sure you have everything you need:

  • A new or almost new strong grip mat (the purple one)
  • Clear transfer vinyl (brand doesn't matter)
  • A new or almost new knife blade and housing
  • Masking tape (optional)
  • Your trusty Cricut machine and software

Step 1: Design your Earring Shapes

Fire up your creativity and design your desired earring shapes using your favourite design software or directly in Cricut Design Space. Whether you're into classic teardrops or funky geometric designs, the possibilities are endless!

Step 2: Set Up Your File
Follow the general instructions in Cricut Design Space to set up your file for a basic cut. Make sure your design is scaled appropriately for the size of your leather sheets.

Step 3: Prepare Your Leather
Click "Make" in Cricut Design Space and take note of the size indicated on the screen. Using sharp scissors or a crafting knife, cut your leather sheet to closely match the size shown.

Step 4: Prep Your Mat and Vinyl
Cut out a piece of clear transfer vinyl to match the size of your leather piece. Lay the transfer vinyl down onto the strong grip mat with the paper side up. Peel off the paper backing so the sticky side is facing up.

Step 5: Position Your Leather
Carefully place the leather sheet, fluffy side down, onto the sticky transfer vinyl. If your mat is loosing it's sticky, you may want to use masking tape around the edges of the leather to keep it in place.

Step 6: Load It Up
Follow the general instructions for loading materials into your Cricut machine. Make sure to select "Medium Garment Leather" as the material setting and use the default pressure.

Step 7: Start Cutting!
Press the magic button and let your Cricut work its cutting magic! Stand by to ensure that the leather is cutting well and not shifting on the mat.

Step 8: Unleash Your Creations
Once the cutting is complete, carefully peel off the cut leather sheet from the transfer vinyl. Pop out your beautifully crafted shapes and marvel at your handiwork!

And there you have it – cutting leather sheets using your Cricut machine is esy peasy!

Just remember, if your knife blade starts to dull, you may notice less-than-perfect cuts and flaking around the edges. Keep those blades sharp for pristine results every time.

Now, gather your materials, fire up your Cricut, and get ready to craft some stunning leather earrings that are sure to turn heads!

Happy making!
