FAQ'S

Is the print waterproof?

The patterns are UV printed, which makes them water resistant. Always avoid contact with perfume or submerging them into water.

Is the print scratch resistant?

We have primed the acrylic prior to printing to avoid the print scratching. However, as acrylic isn't a porous material it can scratch or chip if it comes into contact with hard materials.

We suggest to advise your customers not to put their earrings in their bags with coins or keys, and if they are travelling with them to avoid ongoing friction with other jewellery.

Print overspray

We aim to avoid as much overspray onto the side of the wood and acrylic as much as possible. If for any reason there is some ink on the side of your earring pieces we recommend to use a very fine grit sand paper to light sand it off.

Does your pre-cut shapes have holes?

WOOD & ACRYLIC
We have designed a range of shapes with a number of different hole locations for your to use to design your own pieces.

LEATHER & CORK

Our leather or Cork pieces are sent with NO HOLES. You will need to use a hole punch or nail to make the holes where you need them

What is a pattern repeat?

Majority of our patterns are seamless.

Which means that the edges to the patterns can be joined and appears to be one pattern.

Scaling

We scale all our patterns so they are suitable for jewellery making.

That means we make it smaller so you are able to see as much as the pattern as possible on smaller pieces.

If you wish you have your pattern to be larger for a different kind of project, let us know and we can rescale it for you.

LEATHER:

How thick is the leather?

We aim to source leather that is between 1.6 - 1.8mm thick.

Where do we source our hides?

We source our hides from tanneries around the world. However, when we can we prefer to source within Australia. All depends on stock availability!

Real or Faux leather?

We want to be as environmentally conscious as possible and want to support makers in their endeavours too.

  • We use by product cowhide.
  • We use the full hide. From top to toe! Nothing goes to waste!
  • By selling by the sheet, this allows makers to minimise their own waste.
  • We also cut our pre-cut shapes from our offcuts, so there is almost nothing left at the end.
  • We print to order. Therefore we don't hold stock of patterns that may or may not sell. Which minimises waste in the long run.

DOUBLE SIDED CORK:

How thick is the Cork?

Our double sided cork is approximately 2mm thick.

Where is the Cork sourced?

We source a Portuguese FSC Cork.

How is Cork environmentally friendly?

Cork is produced from the shavings obtained directly from the bark of the cork oak tree. Harvesting happens by hand every 9-14 years from mature cork oak trees that are at least 25 years old. The process involves carefully removing the outer layer of bark without harming the tree, which then regenerates a new layer over time. The trees are not cut down during harvesting and can continue to produce cork.

Is Cork vegan?

Cork fabric is a wonderful vegan alternative to leather, it is as durable as leather, as well as being hypoallergenic and lightweight.

What can I cut my leather or cork with?

We have trialled cutting the leather and cork with the Cricut Maker and have come up with the best way to get a nice clean cut. Head over to our Blog page to learn how. CLICK HERE

We also have had customers use their Die Cuts.

We have tested our leather using a laser cutter and it works successfully. However, it is on the stinky side.

Sizzix big shot can, however you do need the deep cut dies.

Or!

Cut it by hand with sharp fabric scissors.

WOOD:

How thick is the wood?

We use a 3mm Australian Pine Plywood

Is it cut in Australia and is it FSC?

Yes! we collaborate with a local laser cut business to cut all our Wood (and acrylic) pieces and they source FSC plywood for us!

Does the wood require sanding?

When we print the earring piece, we choose the "worst side" to be printed on so it is covered up by the pattern. The back side may require some very light sanding for small burn marks from the laser.

Colour print on wood

We print all our patterns onto the wood with a white base to ensure vibrancy in the colours. If you would like a more rustic look, we can omit the white ink and only print with the transparent colours. Please let us know if that is what you wish to have.

ACRYLIC

How thick is the acrylic?

We use a 3mm Acrylic in White or Clear

Is it cut in Australia?

Yes! we collaborate with a local laser cut business to cut all our Acrylic (and wood) pieces.

White Acrylic Vs Clear Acrylic

White: The pattern is printed onto the front of the acrylic. Because the base is white, the print appear quite bright.

Clear: We print the pattern on the back side of the acrylic, so the pattern is seen through the clear acrylic. This gives it a beautiful gloss finish.
The back side of the print is printed again with the same pattern, so it appears double sided.
Please note: the pattern is not as bright on the clear acrylic vs the white acrylic.
For patterns that have a white or light base, the pattern can appear a little dull in vibrancy in comparison.

What Glue can I use on the Clear Acrylic where it is printed?

We always suggest to test your glue on a small piece before bulk gluing.

So far we have tested LOCTITE - 401 and the ink has not reacted.
